Why I Started MoshiTaxi.com – Serving Tourists Around Kilimanjaro

When people visit Tanzania, they often come for once-in-a-lifetime adventures—climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, going on safari in Serengeti, or experiencing the rich culture of places like Moshi and Arusha. But as someone who has worked in tourism for years, both as a local and as the founder of Oserok Trips, a Tanzanian tour company, I noticed something troubling: many travelers were struggling with one of the most basic but important parts of their journey—transportation. That’s what led me to start MoshiTaxi.com.

This isn’t just a side hustle or a business idea. This is personal. I’ve seen the stress on people’s faces when their airport pickup didn’t show up. I’ve answered panicked WhatsApp messages at midnight from tourists who got stranded by unreliable drivers or couldn’t figure out how to get from Moshi to Arusha. I’ve had clients arrive after long international flights, only to get ripped off by street taxis or wait hours for drivers that  never came. And I always thought to myself: We can do better than this.

I started MoshiTaxi.com with one goal in mind: to offer tourists a safe, professional, and stress-free way to move around Moshi, Arusha, and the greater Kilimanjaro region. I wanted to create a service that didn’t just get people from point A to point B, but made them feel welcome, cared for, and respected from the moment they land.

My journey in tourism didn’t begin with taxis. I’ve been running Oserok Trips, helping travelers from around the world climb Kilimanjaro, explore national parks, and connect with local culture in a meaningful way. Over the years, I learned that the little things matter most—and one of the most important “little things” is how a traveler gets around.

During my time organizing trips, I watched clients struggle to get reliable transport from Kilimanjaro Airport to Moshi. Or the other way around. Sometimes their driver was late, other times they didn’t show up at all.  Some guests complained about confusing taxi rates, or drivers who didn’t understand English well enough to give them confidence. Others told me they weren’t comfortable, especially if they arrived late at night. And every time, I would step in to help—but it made me realize something was missing.

We have a gap in tourism services here. We have great trekking companies, great lodges, even great safari guides—but we didn’t have great local transport. Something reliable, safe, and designed with the tourist in mind. Something that actually puts travelers first. That’s when the idea for MoshiTaxi.com was born.

I didn’t want this to be just another taxi service. I wanted to build something different. Something personal, something honest, something consistent. When you book with Moshi Taxi, you’re getting me or a member of my trained team, someone who understands hospitality, who will arrive on time, help with your luggage,  Respond your questions  regarding your journey   , and make sure you feel safe and relaxed. Our vehicles are always clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. Whether you’re heading to a hotel in Moshi town, Arusha City , or being dropped at Marangu Gate to start your Kilimanjaro trek, or traveling to Arusha for a safari, I handle each ride like it’s my own family I’m picking up.

Another reason I started MoshiTaxi.com was because I care deeply about the image of our country. Tourism is a huge part of Tanzania’s economy, and it breaks my heart when a guest’s first impression is a bad one—because their driver was late, rude, or unprofessional. I wanted to be part of changing that. I wanted every traveler to feel like they’re being taken care of from the moment they land. Because when someone has a smooth, safe experience at the beginning of their trip, they carry that positive feeling throughout their entire journey.

As a local, I also know where the pain points are. I know which roads get muddy during the rainy season. I know which hotels are hard to find at night. I know what it’s like trying to get through the chaotic traffic in Arusha during rush hour. And I’ve designed my services around that knowledge. I plan every transfer with buffer time. I track flights. I send driver information in advance. I speak with guests personally. I stay connected through WhatsApp to give updates. No guesswork, no confusion—just smooth and professional service, every time.

One of my proudest moments was helping a group of elderly clients from Canada who had never been to Africa before. Their international flight was delayed and they landed after midnight at JRO. They were exhausted, nervous, and completely out of their comfort zone. But I was there waiting with a sign, a warm smile, and a vehicle ready to take them to their lodge in Moshi. They later told me that ride was what made them feel safe and welcomed in Tanzania. That’s when I knew I was doing the right thing.

Now, MoshiTaxi.com isn’t just for airport transfers. We offer short rides around town, long-distance trips to Arusha, Machame, Marangu, Marangu Gate, safari lodges, and more. Whether you need a private transfer to your hotel, a trip to a Maasai village, or a pickup at 3AM for an early flight—we’ve got you. And because I also run Oserok Trips, I understand the bigger picture. I know how transport fits into your itinerary, and I make sure it all flows smoothly.

Every time someone chooses Moshi Taxi, they’re supporting a local business built with love, experience, and real care for travelers. I’m not part of a big company. I’m your local connection in Moshi. I’ve walked the same roads, faced the same challenges, and now I’m offering you a better way to get around.

So if you’re coming to Kilimanjaro or Arusha and wondering who to trust for your local transport needs, skip the stress, skip the uncertainty, and book with MoshiTaxi.com. I started this service because I saw how much it was needed—and I promise to make your journey in Tanzania safer, easier, and more enjoyable.

Welcome to Moshi. Karibu Tanzania.
